Members

The strength of our organization lies within its 120+ members, individuals with unique military backgrounds and experiences who are collectively bound by the trials of war and combat in the air, on land, and at sea.

Each of the military services is represented in our members who have served as Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coastguardsmen.

Our members have flown combat reconnaissance, bombing, and ground support missions; stormed hostile foreign shores and maneuvered through jungle, desert, and mountainous terrain; sought out the enemy above and below the surface of the sea, and patrolled, escorted, and supplied in support of air, ground, and naval advanced, expeditionary, and operating forces.

Their service spans the broad timeline of America’s wars during the 20th and early 21st centuries: World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and more current conflicts in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kuwait, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the ongoing Global War on Terror.

The ages of our members span 50 years difference, representing several generations of Americans who have answered the call to arms when their Nation needed them most; who’ve fought so that others may live in peace, freedom, and safety.

All of our members have well and faithfully served this Nation, and have subsequently been honorably discharged from active duty military service.

Some of our members were drafted into service; others served as part of the all-volunteer force. Some members have been wounded in combat, still baring scars as ever present reminders of days not to be forgotten. Many members are recipients of unit citations, expeditionary service, or medals for valor in both peace and war. Some served as enlisted men; others as junior, field grade, or even General officers.

Most are Lifetime Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW); all now contributing citizen-patriots of Mercer Island and other supportive communities across Washington State.

"To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace." - George Washington
