Hospital Visits
Members of VFW Post 5760 often team up with other veterans to host Bingo Nights while visiting the Veterans Administration (VA) Puget Sound Seattle Medical Center located in nearby Beacon Hill. This past November, 2009 several members teamed up with other veterans from VFW Posts in Skyway and Federal Way to enjoy an evening with resident patients for an enthusiastic night of food, refreshments and fun. The evening was supported by the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, who helped with all the arrangements in coordination with the hospital staff.
Each hospital visit brings in more members to meet and befriend resident patients. Such interaction is most often just the right medication or therapy needed. Most resident patients are dealing with long term physical, neurological, or psychological challenges as a result of military service or combat related wounds or injuries. We like to think our visits help fellow veterans in some meaningful way. Judging from the turnout and excitement generated at Bingo Nights, we’re certain such visits are well worth our time and talents. Our next planned visit for Bingo Night will be during November 2010 when we team up with other VFW Posts in the district.
VFW Post 5760 is currently seeking a partnership with any veterans care facility in the area as an avenue to provide financial contributions and develop social and recreational activities for residents. Affiliation with VA is not a requirement, as long as the care facility and management treat resident veterans who are combat wounded or challenged with disabilities incurred in the line of duty.
