Join ~ Expectations

It’s important to know just what’s expected of members once they’ve joined our Post. As a Veterans Service Organization (VSO) we’re focused not only on the needs of our immediate members, but on the needs of all veterans in surrounding communities, throughout the Pacific Northwest, and across the country. Whether a long-time or newly joined member, we feel strongly about keeping our members involved; here’s how.

We expect all members to participate on a consistent basis – to the best of their ability – in Post-related events including, but not limited to:

- Scheduled business meetings held the first Tuesday of each month
at 5:30 pm, or specially scheduled meetings, when required.

- Planned comradeship nights held each month at 7:30 pm, as

- Annual spring open house and holiday season social, each held
during early May and mid December, respectively.

- Any membership, fundraising, or recognition event usually planned
in concert with activities held for National days of remembrance.

We also expect members to be active and consistent recruiters of potential new VFW members for our Post. Members should be aware of veterans in the community and open to the possibility of approaching and in some cases reengaging potential members about benefits, opportunities, and activities at VFW in general, our Post specifically.

And last but not least, we expect members to volunteer and assist on at least one of three standing committees, to include the membership committee, releif committee, and building committee. With historic perspectives and background information often times provided by our Post Trustees – three of our more senior members elected annually – members participating in one or more of these committees often times gain a great deal of experience in a wide array of VFW policy, finance, programmatic, and decision-making matters.
